Bringing in the New Moon

The first new moon after the summer solstice is a great time to enjoy the new moon and give thanks.

On june 27th about 15 people gathered early morning at the Bell Monument in Brantford to bring in the New Moon. Benjamin marshalled the gathering offering a smudge and a few words on the reason for the gathering.

Benjamin explained that for generations our people used the moon cycles to identify certain times to give thanks, and remember our duty to the earth and our ancestors who are now at rest.

The mound at the Bell monument was chosen for its central location in Brantford, and also for its historical and spiritualĀ purpose.

Mounds have been used by many nations to mark the final resting places of our relatives, however over time these sacred places have been removed for development or oddly enough most have been capped by some type of statue or monument.
